How Does Line Jetting Work?
Your septic and sewer lines can become clogged with sand, grease, sludge and debris and typically line jetting is the most effective method to get rid of these types of clogs. High pressure water jetting will emulsify grease, break up sludge and debris, pulverize roots, cut out hardened scale and flush out your entire system. In fact line jetting works so well at keeping your system running smoothly that a lot of large businesses schedule it three or four times a year so they never have to worry about down times which may otherwise occur when pipes become clogged.
High pressure line jetting is an efficient and environmentally safe way to clean your drain and sewer pipes because there are no chemicals involved to break up the clogs. Flexible hoses are inserted into the lines and ordinary water is forced, at varying amounts of pressure, into the sewer line. A nozzle on the end of the hose has forward and reverse jets that direct the powerful concentrated streams of water along the pipes and the pipe walls. These jets are so powerful they can cut through the worst blockages, including tree roots and buildup to thoroughly clean the pipes.
As the hose is removed the reverse jets direct the debris back out of the pipe and into your tank. So it’s best to have your pipes jetted at the same time you’re having your tank pumped so this extra debris can be removed along with the sludge from your tank.
Another benefit of line jetting is that it lets the contractor see the condition of your pipes and detect blockages which may be caused by collapsed pipes. He can also determine the length and the depth of the lines that run to your drain field. That may not seem like such a big deal right now, however your contractor will be able to tell you if your system is up to code which can come in handy if you ever plan to sell your house. More and more states are passing new laws and regulations regarding septic systems and it’s up to the home owner to make sure his system adheres to these guidelines. In most states a septic system inspection is needed before the home can be sold.
Clogged drains and lines can cause down time in restaurants and other industries and lost time means lost money. Several industries prefer to schedule regular line jetting calls. It keeps their system running smoothly so they do not have to worry about lost productivity and cleaner pipes also means fewer service calls which means it saves them money in the long run.
Line jetting should be considered part of your regular maintenance routine whether you’re a homeowner or a business owner. Your septic system is like any other system. With proper maintenance it can last a very long time and it will require very little in the way of repairs. But a neglected septic system is trouble waiting to happen. Save yourself a lot of time and money and add line jetting to your next maintenance call.
